Sanderson's patented flange design requires no gaskets

The BB1 header fits big block Chevrolet engines in cars, trucks, and street rods where tight fit and performance are a factor. Virtually eliminating ground clearance problems, the BB1 hangs down less than 11" from the center of the exhaust ports on the cylinder heads. The BB1 header is 2" tighter to the block than any other blockhugger header!

The BB1 will fit most chassis without a crossmember beneath the center of the engine block.

NOTE: For MarkV (502) engines with opposite side dipstick, please order part #BB1MV

Comes with all hardware necessary for installation.

Will your block hugger headers fit on a gen 4 427 gm?

    Apr 17, 2019, 20:44

For clarification, the 427 Mark IV big block (sometimes considered a 4th gen, even though it is inaccurate) was available in vehicles from 1966 through the mid-70's. There is also a LS-series Gen-4 (LS7) 427 engine. The BB1 is compatible with Mark IV big block engines, and not LS applications.

do these BB1 headers work on angle plug heads and are they square port?

    Feb 20, 2019, 17:20

All big block Chevy cylinder heads are angle plug. Port shape does not matter on street rod applications. Port shape can be a concern on applications regularly operating over 6,000 RPM.

Is there a recommendation on spark plug boots for this header? Straights? 90? Under the header or over? Thanks!

    Jun 19, 2018, 10:53

Use 90° boots, and try to avoid those plug wire sets that use large boots that are not rounded. Routing direction is subjective personal preference to what the installer wants. However, the headers follow the block line closely toward the pan, so many still route the wires up over the valve covers.

Do the uncoated headers have a temp coating on them that needs to be removed (i.e. - blasted) before painting?

    Aug 17, 2017, 14:40

No, the plain (unfinished) headers are literally plain steel.

I have a GM 505/502 crate motor and they recommend a header with a primary tube 2 1/8" in diameter. Do you have a set of headers for this application. I'm looking for shorty headers to fit a 1971 Chevy C10.

    May 19, 2017, 14:46

Not something we offer. The largest tube size we have for the big block is 1-7/8". Be sure that you understand the tube diameter and why they suggest such a large header. They are expecting the customer to spend most of their time racing the application. Therefore, the 2-1/8" primary diameter is for maximum power at the higher RPM ranges. If that is your intent, fine. However, if this is your cruiser, it would be like using replacing the garden hose in your backyard with a fire hose.

The second concern is proper sealing between the header and the cylinder head. Some cylinder heads have massive exhaust ports, requiring a special flange and larger tube headers---even if the use of the application does not justify such a large tube. However, again, if this is just a cruiser and is not going to spend most of its tine above 5,500 RPM, and the flange seals properly with a smaller header, then the engine will be more efficient and may increase torque and power output at these more common RPM levels the engine spends most of its time.

Limited 5 Year General Warranty

Sanderson Street Rod Headers strives to supply our customers with the highest quality parts and service available in the street rod industry. In keeping with this, we warrant and will repair or replace, at our option after inspection in our facility, any of our products which are found by us to have failed due to defects in either material or workmanship.  This warranty is activated by the return of the Warranty Card enclosed with every pair of headers, and is effective for FIVE YEARS * from the date of purchase as indicated on the original invoice.

This Warranty does not cover products that fail due to improper motor tuning, alteration, disassembly, or damage caused by racing, misuse, neglect, abuse, improper installation and/or accident, or when used on applications for which they were not designed or approved. We are specifically not responsible for the costs of removal, installation, transportation, destruction of other components, inconvenience, loss of time, or other personal damages, or for any other associated costs including the application of aftermarket coatings applied by others. Sanderson Street Rod headers shall not be liable for any and all consequential damages occasioned by the breach of any written or implied warranty pertaining to this sale in excess of the purchase price of the product(s) as found on the original invoice.

* Extremely compact header designs which locate the collector in close proximity to the exhaust ports are very sensitive to engine tuning. Improper air/fuel mix or timing of ignition and/or valvetrain can cause early failure due to excessive heat. For this reason, part numbers CC2 and CC3 are offered with a two-year Warranty period only. All other Warranty conditions apply.
